Blog #14: Rock Concerts Vs. EDM Sets

Rock Concerts Vs. EDM Sets

This topic is in my opinion, the two different genres bring about two different moods when performed live. Rock concerts in general are more classic, nostalgic and elegant in comparison to EDM performances.

Rock concerts in my opinion, the music performed live sounds different compared to their studio quality. Music nowadays are more focused on perfecting the sound when recorded and especially when performed live the instrumental is being played through rather than performed. When attending a rock concert and looking at how all these instruments and vocals making these sounds is rather hypnotic to visually look at and listen to.

EDM events are different in performing music, the music is influenced by the DJ and his set influencing the sound and the audience for that "bass drop." EDM are different because there is a lack of instruments but there is a series of lasers and light shows that complements the performance of the DJ. The music and mood is influenced by the DJ and the visual set of the performance.

Blog #7: Introduction to KPOP

What is KPOP? Kpop is a musical genre consisting of electronic, hip hop, rock, and R&B music originating in South Korea. In recent years the genre has grown into a popular subculture among the younger generation of Asia, and thanks to the internet Kpop has spread outside of Asia reaching other westernised countries.  Why people listen? Since the genre has spread to westernised countries that more or less don't speak the Korean language, why do they listen to it? Well you don't necessarily have to speak the language to enjoy the music. That's what music is about, enjoying the sounds of the melody and musical talents those that produce it. Although, if you're still wandering why foreigners still listen indulge in Kpop, there are dedicated Kpop fans that actively translate the lyrics into English and other languages. As well as that, Kpop is heavily influenced by western pop music, so there's some common ground in terms of the flavour of the musi...

Blog #11: Insight into a Rock Band~ The 1975

With their intensely meaningful lyrics and infectious guitar riffs, The 1975 never fails to make me swoon. Their songs give off 'feel good vibes'; they're the type of tunes you can blast whilst driving down the freeway late at night. The 1975 are a British rock band from Manchester (if you can't tell already, I am obsessed with many English bands hahah). The members, Matthew "Matty" Healy (lead singer and guitarist) , George Daniel (Drummer), Adam Hann (lead guitarist)  and Ross MacDonald (bassist), first met each other at school in 2002. They started out covering punk songs at gigs arranged for underage youths, before drawing on the works of famous musicians- such as Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones and Brian Eno- to formulate their own, unique sound. They released their first EP ' Facedown' in 2012, with the UK indie label Dirty Hit. Their songs were given exposure on radio stations and on various online platforms, which significantly incre...
