Blog #18: Headhunterz

Headhunterz

Willem Rebergen also known as Headhunterz, a Dutch DJ and record producer is well known within the hardstyle genre. Headhunterz originally started as a duo project in 2005 partnered with Bobby van Putten but by 2006 van Putten made a decision to leave Headhunterz to continue his musical studies at the Rock Academy.  Rebergen continued as Headhunterz continuing his success in 2007 and formed a collaboration with Wildstylez as Project One receiving well in the Hardstyle community.
Headhunterz continued his success in the hardstyle genre until 2013 where he signed with Ultra Records marking his departure from hardstyle to mainstream music. It did not bode well with the hardstyle community but Headhunterz commits to his decision with his creative freedom. Despite his commitment to a new genre he still plays hardstyle on set. In 2016, there were many hints of his return to hardstyle such as the suprise appearance on the Defqon 1 alongside Technoboy and The Prophet. Ending 2016 with the return of Project One alongside Wildstylez appearing at Qlimax 2016 and Knockout Circuz 2016 which i have attended and personally enjoyed as it brings the nostalgic memories of early hardstyle. In late June 2017 he officially announced his return to hardstyle and is continuing to make new music/

Blog #5: Introduction to Rock Music

The rock music genre originated in the United States during the mid 1950s, and has since increased in popularity throughout the world. It's style draws upon the African American genres of blues, rhythm, and country music. As a result of expansion, the genre has further split into sub-genres, such as alternative rock and heavy metal, and incorporated other musical influences e.g. jazz classical. A rock band is typically centred around the use of an electric guitar, as well as an electric bass guitar, drums and one or more singers. Over the years, the rock genre has been used as a platform for artists and audiences to voice their opinions on the social and political issues of the time. This is encapsulated in the lyrics.  Themes of love and hardship also make popular themes for songs. The first rock 'n' roll record to achieve national popularity was "Rock Around the Clock" made by Bill Haley and the Comets in 1955. It appealed to the younger audienc...
