Bollywood music are the music featured in Bollywood movies with songs together with dance from usually actors(Hero) and actress(Heroine).   Bollywood songs with its distinct music are one of the integral part of Hindi cinema which gives it enduring popular appeal, cultural value and context. It is the predominant component of Indian pop music, and derives it from both classical and modern sources. Though Hindi films routinely contain many songs and some dance routines, they are not musicals in the Western theatrical sense. From my childhood, i have been influenced by bollywood movies and music. I grew up listening to Bollywood music. It is a kind of culture and way of life for most of Indian people. It has heavy influence to its bordering countries and South Asia.

Bollywood songs have a deliberately crafted with lyrics and mostly written by famous poets, then set to music, carefully choreographed to match the dance routine or script of the film. They are then sung by professional playback singers and usually lip-synched by the actors in movie rather than playing it in the background. Bollywood music do not necessarily have direct relationship to the subject of the film and it drive large-scale production numbers featuring elaborate choreography. Generally in one Bollywood movie there are on average 4 to 5 songs involved.
Some of the Genres of Bollywood music includes but are not limited to:

Filmi-Ghazal: based on ghazal poetry in Hindi or Urdu. It usually uses precomposed musical pieces.

Classical and Modern: based on classical music of Indian society and modern music are infuenced by various modern music.

Filmi-Qawwali: based on devotional music of the Sufis.

Disco: based on the Western disco music.

Indian cinema, with its characteristic film music, has not only spread all over Indian society, but also been on the forefront of the spread of India's culture around the world. Bollywood songs are played in lots of restaurant, on radio, local buses, dance party's etc. Hindi film music has also been combined with local styles in the Caribbean to form chutney music. Blog #5: Introduction to Rock Music

The rock music genre originated in the United States during the mid 1950s, and has since increased in popularity throughout the world. It's style draws upon the African American genres of blues, rhythm, and country music. As a result of expansion, the genre has further split into sub-genres, such as alternative rock and heavy metal, and incorporated other musical influences e.g. jazz classical. A rock band is typically centred around the use of an electric guitar, as well as an electric bass guitar, drums and one or more singers. Over the years, the rock genre has been used as a platform for artists and audiences to voice their opinions on the social and political issues of the time. This is encapsulated in the lyrics.  Themes of love and hardship also make popular themes for songs. The first rock 'n' roll record to achieve national popularity was "Rock Around the Clock" made by Bill Haley and the Comets in 1955. It appealed to the younger audienc...

Blog #11: Insight into a Rock Band~ The 1975

With their intensely meaningful lyrics and infectious guitar riffs, The 1975 never fails to make me swoon. Their songs give off 'feel good vibes'; they're the type of tunes you can blast whilst driving down the freeway late at night. The 1975 are a British rock band from Manchester (if you can't tell already, I am obsessed with many English bands hahah). The members, Matthew "Matty" Healy (lead singer and guitarist) , George Daniel (Drummer), Adam Hann (lead guitarist)  and Ross MacDonald (bassist), first met each other at school in 2002. They started out covering punk songs at gigs arranged for underage youths, before drawing on the works of famous musicians- such as Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones and Brian Eno- to formulate their own, unique sound. They released their first EP ' Facedown' in 2012, with the UK indie label Dirty Hit. Their songs were given exposure on radio stations and on various online platforms, which significantly incre...
