Blog #9 : The movie scores in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"

There may be some friends feel strange for me to classify the “Harry Potter” as classic, but don’t forget, the first film of this series – “harry potter and the philosopher's stone” had been released for 12 years, least of the novel had been published even earlier than movie. Although there are different kind of reviews of the series, its soundtracks had brought a lot of shock to us.
The harry potter soundtrack created by John Williams, who also created the lots of impressive movie scores for “Star Wars”, “Schindler’s list”, “Jurassic park” and so on. His writing style especially suit this grand narration film. Let’s enjoy his most representative soundtrack of the Harry potter series movie.

This music is not really complicated, it combined by two topics. The first theme was Hedwig’s theme-Harry Potter’s beloved pet, a beautiful snowy owl which actually more than a pet, if you are a fan of HP series, you know what I mean. The appearance of Hedwig was a little fresh and slightly mysterious, played by the clockwork. Then appearance with the quick string and the cello bass, brought different flavors to the same theme. This melody fits well with Hedwig’s image- beautiful, graceful, and proud.

The second part of music is the Hogwarts theme, the wizarding school of the magic world and the “home” to little Harry. This subject tonality is very changeable, extremely unstable, made up a scene of the Hogwarts school with the ceiling, the moveable staircases, the ghost cross from your body. The melody was led by the clarinet, then played by a small shift. After a short variation, the band played a huge “Hogwarts theme” melody, which was very impressive!

After two themes is “ported”, two themes constantly interweave, tonal instability to reach perfection, from the moment on, also make the tension, this is John Williams “big scene music” idiomatic patterns, effect is very good.

“Harry Potter” has left a magical dream in many people’s childhood, what is the most touching scene to you?

Blog #7: Introduction to KPOP

What is KPOP? Kpop is a musical genre consisting of electronic, hip hop, rock, and R&B music originating in South Korea. In recent years the genre has grown into a popular subculture among the younger generation of Asia, and thanks to the internet Kpop has spread outside of Asia reaching other westernised countries.  Why people listen? Since the genre has spread to westernised countries that more or less don't speak the Korean language, why do they listen to it? Well you don't necessarily have to speak the language to enjoy the music. That's what music is about, enjoying the sounds of the melody and musical talents those that produce it. Although, if you're still wandering why foreigners still listen indulge in Kpop, there are dedicated Kpop fans that actively translate the lyrics into English and other languages. Blog #11: Insight into a Rock Band~ The 1975

With their intensely meaningful lyrics and infectious guitar riffs, The 1975 never fails to make me swoon. Their songs give off 'feel good vibes'; they're the type of tunes you can blast whilst driving down the freeway late at night. The 1975 are a British rock band from Manchester (if you can't tell already, I am obsessed with many English bands hahah). The members, Matthew "Matty" Healy (lead singer and guitarist) , George Daniel (Drummer), Adam Hann (lead guitarist)  and Ross MacDonald (bassist), first met each other at school in 2002. They started out covering punk songs at gigs arranged for underage youths, before drawing on the works of famous musicians- such as Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones and Brian Eno- to formulate their own, unique sound. They released their first EP ' Facedown' in 2012, with the UK indie label Dirty Hit. Their songs were given exposure on radio stations and on various online platforms, which significantly incre...
